Couples & Marriage Therapy
Couples & Marriage Therapy for Women in Colorado
Your relationship might be part of what hurts right now, and also part of what could heal it. That's not a contradiction. You don't have to have the words for what's wrong yet to start working on it, together.

Why This Space Matters
The Cycle Feels Like Who You Are. It's Usually Just a Pattern.
Your relationship has developed cycles. Who withdraws. Who pursues. Who ends up feeling more alone than before the conversation started. Those cycles feel like who you are as a couple. They're usually just a pattern you learned together.
Couples and marriage therapy at Colorado Women's Center is built around your specific relationship. Not a script for couples in general. You and your partner both get heard, and the work is aimed at your actual cycle, not just the most recent argument.
Our Promise to You
We Guarantee Our Therapist Matching
Opening up in front of your partner and a stranger at the same time takes something out of you. That's enough on its own. It shouldn't also be wasted on the wrong match. If your first therapist isn't the right fit, we'll match you with another at no additional cost. That's the whole guarantee.

The Situations We See Most Often.
Your relationship's specifics are different from anyone else's. Still, most of what brings a couple in falls into a few recognizable situations. See if one of these sounds like yours.
Communication & Conflict
You say one thing, your partner hears another, and the same disagreement keeps resurfacing in a slightly different outfit. Therapy works with the pattern underneath the words, past whatever this week's version of it looks like.
Identity & Transition
One or both of you has changed since this relationship started, a new job, a new sense of who you are, and the relationship hasn't caught up yet. That gap is workable, not a verdict.
Family & Outside Pressure
In-laws. Old friendships. Expectations neither of you actually agreed to, all pressing on a relationship that was supposed to be just the two of you.
Intimacy & Connection
Physical closeness. Emotional closeness. Harder to access than it used to be, even when you both still want it.
Shame & Self-Protection
Walls of yours that went up to protect you once. They never quite came back down, even with someone who isn't the person who put them there.
Big Life Transitions
A move. A new baby. A career change. A loss. Anything that's asked your relationship to hold more than it was built for at the time.
Relationship Structure & Agreements
Different expectations of yours about how this relationship is supposed to work, spoken or not, that keep causing friction neither of you can quite name.
Grief & Loss
A loss. You're both carrying it, at different speeds, in the same relationship.
Pre-Commitment Counseling
Getting ready for a bigger step together, marriage, moving in, a shared future, before the specific questions that come with it. Our dedicated pre-marriage counseling page covers this ground in more depth.
Our Approach
How It Works Here.
Getting started doesn't require you and your partner to agree on what's wrong first. No agreement needed yet. Here's what the first few steps actually look like.
The Match Call Comes First.
Before you're paired with anyone, a Wellness Coordinator listens. To what's going on. To what brought you in. She then matches you and your partner with a therapist based on that conversation. That's the whole call.
Working With the Cycle Underneath It.
You're matched with one consistent therapist, who often draws on the Gottman Method and emotionally focused therapy (EFT) to work with your cycle underneath the conflict. Most couples notice a shift within the first few sessions.
Individual Work, Alongside or Before.
Individual sessions. Alongside or before the couples work, often part of it too. Sometimes one partner's own history needs its own space before the two of you can move forward together.
In Any of Five Offices, or Online.
Boulder, Denver, Broomfield, Fort Collins, and Longmont each have an office. Every one of them offers online sessions too. Where you start doesn't have to depend on where you live.
Methods We Draw On
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Gottman Method
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Common Questions
What You're Probably Wondering.
How is this different from individual therapy?
Our couples therapy is tailored specifically to your own relationship, not a general template applied to every couple that walks in. Your Wellness Coordinator matches you and your partner with a therapist based on what you both share on the Match Call.
Can one of us come in alone sometimes?
Yes. Sometimes one partner's own history needs its own space, either instead of couples sessions for a while or running alongside them. Your therapist can work with both formats, and can help you sort out which order actually makes sense for you.
What if we're not sure counseling can help us at this point?
That's a common place to start from, and it doesn't mean therapy won't help you. Your therapist works with wherever you and your partner actually are right now, uncertainty included, even if you haven't decided for certain to stay together.
Is what we share confidential?
Yes. What you share in session is confidential, protected the same way any medical record is under HIPAA. That's true whether you're in session together as a couple, or your therapist is meeting with just you individually instead of together.
How soon can we actually get in?
Match Calls are usually available within 48 hours and often within 24. Most new clients are scheduled with a therapist within about a week, depending on both your schedules, and sessions run seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.
Can we do this from home, or does it have to be an office?
Either. Colorado Women's Center offers in-person sessions at five Front Range offices and online sessions anywhere in Colorado. You can start online and move to an office later, or the other way around, depending on what works for you both.
What actually happens on the Match Call?
A Wellness Coordinator listens to what's going on and what brought you in. You control how much detail you share. Based on that conversation, she matches you and your partner with a therapist, and there's no assessment to complete before you talk to someone.
