Melanie Thomas, MA, LPCC

Therapist & Counselor

Melanie Thomas is originally from the Midwest, growing up in a small rural town in Minnesota. From an early age, she was determined to make it her mission to make the world a better place. She determined that one way of doing this would be to become a mental health counselor, as she saw, first-hand, the negative effects of how limited access to mental health services impacted the individuals in the community she grew up in. She currently lives in Denver, Colorado and earned her Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.

At the Colorado Women’s Center, Melanie creates a safe space in which one feels comfortable to, in the words of Brené Brown, “dare greatly,” and be vulnerable. Melanie’s approach to therapy combining elements drawn from Reality Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Oriented Possibility Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Insight-Oriented approaches. Depending on the needs of the individual/couple, she incorporates creative expression in her work. She will be there to collaborate with you, guide you, motivate you, challenge you, provide you with alternative perspectives, and empower you to become the person you want to be. Melanie provides a holistic approach that focuses on establishing balanced wellness across all aspects of one’s life.

Melanie helps individuals who deal with the challenges of anxiety, depression, body image issues, trauma, ADHD, ASD, interpersonal relationship issues, and difficult life transitions. She works diligently to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and promote conversations around supporting individuals with mental health concerns to facilitate growth and learning at the individual, family, and community levels.

Melanie believes that every individual has their own interpretation of their reality, and that this perception is what they base their thoughts, feelings, and actions off of. She believes that awareness is the vital first step towards change, and strives to help individuals increase their self-awareness while they harness their willingness to embrace change and make positive improvements in their lives.

Melanie enjoys spending time with loved ones (some have paws), reading, traveling, camping, hiking, cycling, or watching movies while knitting or crocheting.

She looks forward to meeting you, getting to know you and help you find solutions to your problems and find the meaning in your life.
